The Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation has created a DEI program called The BAFI Way, a guide how we treat others.
One of the values is compassion, and it asks that we demonstrate exceptional care and kindness to others, be respectful, and treat others the way we want to be treated. We know that everyone’s abilities, backgrounds, and experiences make our team stronger. And we celebrate everything our employees bring to the table, looking for ways to foster a team filled with diverse abilities, perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds.
Our Values Bring Us Together
While The BAFI Way has always been aligned with DEI values, our intentional journey as an organization began in 2022 to learn more, do better, and ensure that DEI principles are embedded throughout our business practices and strategic goals. In partnership and consultation with Cornell University, BAFI began by learning, listening, sharing, and organizing.
Learning
Offering the foundational Diversity training: Courses available to employees
Listening
Adopted the Thought Exchange real-time discussion platform for ongoing DEI surveys, collaboration, engagement, and growth at all levels
Sharing
Began reporting and discussing DEI progress in monthly executive leadership meetings and quarterly board meetings.
Organizing
Established the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leader
Added DEI learning and practices into recruiting, on boarding, and career advancement programs
